Heart in Michigan – A Two-Sticker Design Inspired by Crystal Blue Lakes & Lush Green Wilderness
As a boy, I lived in the Upper Peninsula border town of Menomonee, Michigan. This small town of about 10,000 souls borders Marinette, Wisconsin and the bay of Green Bay. I loved being a 12-year-old kid in this small town, surrounded by wilderness!
It was such a great age to dive into local U.P. culture and adventure. In summer, my wilderness past-times included fishing, hiking, smelting (little fish), camping, motocross, and sailing. In winter, a snowmobile was my ticket to the great outdoors.
It was simply a great time to be alive and a great place to have tons of fun.
One of my favorite places was my summer camp, Camp Batawagama, the Iron County Youth Camp. At “Camp Bhat” we were taught how to canoe, snorkel, and lifeguard. In the process, we all learned the finer points of building deep friendships. Some lasted until the end of camp, others were lifelong, and I truly love my old camp buddies.
It was these amazing boyhood memories that inspired the blue and green Heart in Michigan stickers.
Blue represents Michigan’s relationship with its great lakes. The lakes that border it are Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, and Lake Superior. Also, there are over 10,000 lakes within the state. Green symbolizes the vast woods and wilderness.
As luck would have it, blue and green are the main colors of the two top state universities. This was not intentional, but we are quite happy with the coincidence. Out of respect to both schools (and those who didn’t attend either of them), our design has no affiliation with either the University of Michigan or Michigan State.
This Heart in Michigan two-sticker design is one of my favorites.
One sticker is the lower peninsula of Michigan, aka the “Mitten.” The other is of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, aka the “U.P.” Both are on the same sheet but each peels off independently of each other. You can arrange the two stickers however you wish.
Is Michigan your home? Are you headed there for a visit? I encourage you to support local retailers. Here are two that sell Heart in Michigan items:

In the meantime, reminisce about your own 12-year-old adventures, and keep on exploring!
