Jam Cruise | The Festival at Sea
Have you ever been on a cruise? Have you ever attended a music festival? Have you ever wanted to combine both experiences? This is Jam Cruise. In January of 2019, the cruise ship Jade by Norwegian will transform into a floating music festival lasting 6 nights and 7 days. This will mark the 17th Jam Cruise voyage. The ship is sleek, not as big as other boats in years past, but it’s also 3 times bigger than the first Jam Cruise. It has a total of 15 levels or decks, 8 of which have cabins. The cabins range from dual occupancy to full-on suites. There are inner cabins, balcony cabins and some balconies that even connect with the neighboring cabins.
Departing from Miami on January 15th and headed toward Belize. The music starts on day one at 6pm on the pool deck, traditionally. Music generally goes till about 5 am to 6 am daily. Once the “official” music ends there are magical, once in a lifetime jam and picking sessions that happen on various spots around the boat. Being there for these early morning sessions is incredible as the sky begins to lighten and the sun comes up over the horizon. Sunrise sessions are among the best times one can ever have, anywhere.
After a full night and a full day at sea, the ship is scheduled to arrive at Belize by 8am on January 17th and will be at port till 4 pm. There are all kinds of excursions one can sign up to participate in, such as deep-sea fishing, scuba, snorkeling, zip cord, and local tours. In addition to all the fun-filled touristy attractions, there is also an option for attendees to give back to the communities they visit. Jam Cruise and Cloud 9 runs a non-profit called Positive Legacy, committed to integrating live music and services at each port of call. Each year the activities change, from beach clean-up to providing youth with shoes, to learning about local culture and raising awareness through engagement.
After a day at port in Belize, it’s time to re-board the ship and head out for another night at sea. This year’s second port of call is Cozumel Mexico. Scheduled to arrive at 8 am on January 18th, there are more activities and Positive Legacy engagements to participate in.
Each port of call arrives around 8am and scheduled to leave by 4pm. There’s always a night at sea between port stops. The 3rd and final stop this year will be Progresso,Mexico.
This is the first time in 17 years that Jam Cruise has 3 ports of call. The final two nights and last full day on the boat will be out at sea, making the voyage back from Mexico to Miami Florida.
